Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
30 class hours (= 22.5 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 90 hours (equivalent to 3 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 67.5 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Recommended knowledge:
German language proficiency at Level C1 (CEFR)
Available for international students only (with university entrance qualifications from outside Germany)

Learning outcomes:
Students acquire and deepen knowledge about the requirements of academic writing in the context of Master level studies. Based on the theoretical foundation the students train their writing skills by practical exercises on academic topics. In addition, students will learn to present scientific content in an appropriate manner.

-        Citing, paraphrasing, and referencing other people´s research properly
-        Understanding the function of the different parts of a scientific paper
-        Structuring papers, i.e. writing effective introductions, methods, results/discussions and conclusions
-        Writing clearly and concise
-        Planning and organizing academic writing, time management
-        Writing questionnaires and interview guidelines
-        Self-correction and proof reading
-        Preparing and presenting scientific content orally
-        Tips for successful academic paper presentations and writing styles for discussing data, graphs and tables.
-        Relevant grammar and language structures of academic writing
