Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this module, students will be familiar with FEM, a very powerful approximation method based on deformation functions. They will be able to carry out finite element analyses, as well as recognize and avoid essential sources of error. They will have gained experience with it by carrying out simple tasks in the idealization and interpretation of results.

- Mathematical and mechanical basics
- Derivation of a simple stiffness matrix
- Types of elements: Rod, beam, disc, plate, shell
- Calculating a simple example with comparisons by way of manual calculation
- Simple dynamic calculations
