Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
90 class hours (= 67.5 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 240 hours (equivalent to 8 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 172.5 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes:
Structures of the Health Care System:
Introduction to the structures and principles of the German health care system. After successfully completing this module, students will be familiar with the basic structures and data of the health care system. They will understand the main principles of the statutory and private health insurance system and statutory nursing care insurance. Students will be familiar with historical and current developments and reforms in the German health care system. They will know the central institutions of the German health care system. In the context of demographic development and structural conditions, students will be able to explain how health care is developing and why and where it is opening up new fields of activity. They will be aware of the changing requirements and their implications and will be able to concretize them with regard to the consequences for the acquisition of new competence profiles and new task fields.
 
Health Science Basics:
Students will acquire selected basic knowledge about health science. In addition to the development of public health, an understanding of public health and health sciences and their significance for nursing expertise will be developed. In addition, students will be familiar with central scientific and subjective constructs of health and illness. Furthermore, they will be familiar with selected health psychological concepts that can be used to predict health behavior. Finally, students will have learned concepts and strategies to prevent disease and promote health and will have deepened their knowledge through practical application.

Health Science Basics:
1.        Historical introduction to the development of public health and health sciences
2.        Public health and health sciences and their significance for nursing expertise
3.        Scientific and subjective notions of disease and health (biomedical understanding, biopsychosocial disease model, risk factor model, health-disease continuum, concept of salutogenesis and sense of coherence)
4.        Models for predicting health behavior (e.g. health-behavior model, social-cognitive theory, health action process approach)
5.        Principles of disease prevention and health promotion
6.        Examples of health promotion in different settings (e.g. companies, hospitals, day-care centers, schools, etc.)
